What is the ultimate holiday essential? That’s right: Champagne. And behind the 21st window of our Advent Calendar we have just that waiting for you. Look at the picture above. Can you see yourself all snug, huddled up in front of the fireplace, snacks on the table, all your loved ones gathered around, a glass of bubbly in hand? Yes, thought so.

Veuve Clicquot’s story is remarkable. The champagne house looks back on a 200-year history of sparkling and glamorous moments. Reims, 1798: the young Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin marries François Clicquot, heir to Maison Clicquot. Six years after, sadly, she becomes a widow. At only 27 years of age, the young woman takes on the leadership of the family business and turns it into a flourishing enterprise. It is her, the Lady of Champagne, to whom we owe the existence of the Champagne House Veuve Clicquot! Her business acumen, her appetite for innovation and her insistence on quality, allowed the young woman to develop the company far beyond the borders of Reims. Today, the yellow label is recognisable around the world and part of many celebrations.

Surprisingly fresh, fun and elegant, Veuve Clicquot adds a touch of glamour and sparkle to the party season. Characterful and of exquisite finesse, this Champagne is the perfect companion for the End of Year festivities. And because today is not only Friday but the last Friday before Christmas, we have double the reasons to celebrate! That is why we put 2 x 1 gift set from Veuve Clicquot comprising a bottle of Carte Jaune and two glasses under the Christmas tree for you today.

Discover and explore: Veuve Clicquot Gift Collection

Travelling was Madame Clicquot’s passion. Inspired by the forward-looking spirit of adventure, the enduring passion for discovery and excellence that gave birth to the House, Veuve Clicquot’s holiday collection is always full of surprises and references to travelling.

The collection of Magnetic Arrow boxes, for example, retraces the 6 historical destinations of Madame Clicquot’s champagne exports around the world. It includes a magnetic arrow that can be hung to bring a touch of originality to your interior and recall the magnetic attraction of these cities. This is an ideal gift for someone who loves travelling but who simply cannot leave without their favourite champagne.

This year, more destinations are available: “Zürich” and “Geneva” as well as a special “winter edition” reminiscing warm winter clothes with the names of Swiss ski resorts “St.Moritz”, “Zermatt”, “Gstaad” and “Verbier”. In Switzerland you can find the Veuve Clicquot arrows at Globus, Coop, selected wine merchants, restaurants and bars.

Another sweet gift idea is the Clicquot Trunk. You can always recognize a seasoned traveller by the labels on their suitcase. Each destination leaves a trace, fills us with memories and dreams… The Veuve Clicquot trunk, in iconic yellow, already comes equipped with stylised labels, symbols of the places that shaped the journey of the Maison. The receiver of this gift can take their trunk to the next destination, celebrate their arrival in style and start to write an all-new chapter in their own book of life.

Speaking of writing: the Gift Box “Pencil Magnet” was created in tribute to Madame Clicquot’s invention of Rosé champagne in 1818 by blending red wine with white wine. Available in yellow and pink, containing either Brut or Rosé, these gift boxes are customizable because you can write on them. Perfect for a personalized gift.

Veuve Clicquot Rosé Champagne 200 Years Reims

Veuve Clicquot Rosé: 200 years anniversary

Exactly 200 years ago, Madame Clicquot innovated and completely re-created the rosé champagne of the time. She had an audacious new vision in which colour, taste, and aroma were vital to the quality. So she broke with accepted norms and re-created the process of making rosé champagne.

Madame Clicquot was very fond of red-wine grape parcels from the Bouzy region of Champagne, and she elaborated her own red wine from the area. Inspiration struck, and in 1818 she decided to blend this with her still white wines. The result was a stronger rosé champagne, with definite character. Her talent in re-creation gave us the first known blended rosé champagne: Veuve Clicquot Rosé!

Veuve Clicquot Rosé is the fruity declination of the Clicquot style. An assemblage of about 50 to 60 different crus, the structure of this vintage champagne is based on the traditional style of the Brut Carte Jaune: 44 to 48% Pinot Noir, 18 to 23% Meunier, 25 to 29% of Chardonnay.

Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut

The Yellow Label is Veuve Clicquot’s signature champagne. 2017 marked the 140th anniversary of the icon. Introduced in 1877, the yellow label is instantly recognizable as a symbol of quality and heritage. Champagne lovers across the globe enjoy Clicquot’s yellow for its characterful, crisp and fruity taste. Dominique Demarville, Cellar Master at Veuve Clicquot describes it as such: “Tiny bubbles permeate the bright, golden-yellow Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label in the glass. On the nose, aromas of peaches and raisins reflect the grape varietals, while the ageing process results in notes of vanilla and toasted brioche. Fresh and full-bodied, Yellow Label Brut is well structured, with a robust acidity and a streak of minerality.”

This structure that he mentions stems from the predominant presence of Pinot Noir (50-55%), the roundness brought to the blend by Meunier (15-20%) and the elegance only a chardonnay can bring (28-33%). Grapes from about 60 different crus are sourced and 25-45% of the blend is comprised of reserve wines that have been aged up to 15 years.

Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label is a perfect aperitif and during a meal pairs well with pan-fried seafood, fish and cheese.
