In February 2018 the first edition of DRINKafFAIR took place in Glattbrugg, Switzerland. The idea behind the event: bring together bartenders, restaurateurs, beverage brands, distributors, producers and other industry professionals and allow them to network and exchange.

Close to 60 different brands, brand ambassadors and producers from all over the world were attending the first edition – plus five speakers from the “50 World Best” bars, who shared their personal knowledge and experience.

This year, the fair welcomed drinks professionals and enthusiasts once again in Glattbrugg, where they could exchange ideas about product innovations and trends. The speaker line-up was as impressive as for the last edition.

Luc Merlet, Commercial & Marketing Director at Merlet & Fils, a company that is not only known for its family brand Merlet, but that also works on behalf of several other brands, such as Hpnotiq, spoke about these collaborations at his Drink.Talk.

The two bartenders Christian Heiss (Kronenhalle) and Julio Enzler (Barchetta, Hotel Storchen) know exactly what it means to run a bar – after all, both have already been awarded several times. In their lecture, they talked about the four basic pillars of “Bar Management”.

“Inspiration behind Cognac” was the title of Guillaume Le Dorner‘s presentation. In 2017, he opened the cognac bar Luciole in Cognac and since then served a panoply of different cognac drinks there. In his Drink.Talk, Guillaume Le Dorner gave insight into what makes this spirit so special for the preparation of cocktails.

Kathy Rapp, co-created the bar menu of the Barchetta Bar (Hotel Storchen, Zurich), which has been awarded “Best Bar Menu 2018” by Bar News magazine. Kathy, who is responsible for marketing, provided input on “cocktail menus with a difference”.

For over ten years, Thomas Huhn has been Bar Manager at Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois in Basel. Once almost a professional soccer player, the now 42-year-old won several awards for his work at the bar. He knows: A bar would be nothing without its guests. In his keynote, he provided a slightly different view on “the hotel bar”.

“What is the difference between a Tonic Water and a Filler? And what role does mineralization play in this?” Michael Schneider, producer of “Swiss Mountain Spring”, answered these and other questions in his presentation at DRINKafFAIR – including a tasting of his products.
