Expovina Primavera Zurich

Every spring, Zurich welcomes one of the most important international wine exhibitions: expovinaPRIMAVERA.

The popular spring wine fair celebrates its 14th anniversary already and this year’s edition took place in the trend location Giessereihalle PULS 5 in the center of Zurich-West. For eight days this venue was transformed into a real marketplace for wine lovers. More than 80 wine producers and wine merchants offered around 2,000 wines from all major wine growing regions in the world for tasting and enjoyment. In addition to top-class specialties and rarities, tried and tested everyday wines were presented as well as some interesting Chinese wines.

Traditionally, the first wines of the new vintage are presented at expovinaPRIMAVERA. 2017 was a hard year with historically low yields due to frost, but the quality of the wines is extraordinary.

Visiting expovinaPRIMAVERA is always worthwhile. We were there with Obrist this year and invited Christina from NewInZurich, Marina from Lovefoodish and Hazel from Boxmopolitan for a tasting. Below are impressions and highlights.

If you are interested in wine and also want to create a story with Obrist – content producers, bloggers, influencers – you can now apply. Just click on “Work with Obrist” below. Someone from our team will contact you.

Obrist Brut – Swiss sparkling wine

The first highlight that impressed us at the Obrist booth is Obrist Brut. Pale yellow with silvery accents and a lively, persistent perlage, this sparkling wine captivates with an elegant, complex personality. Citrus scents and aromas of mandarin and rose petals characterize the charming Obrist Brut. On the palate, it is pleasantly fresh; a sparkling wine that is perfect for all festive aperitifs and that pairs well with smoked fish, crab meat, fresh asparagus, shellfish and scallops, lobster soup, grilled sea bass, duck with olive sauce, Beaufort, Camembert, flambéed pineapple and Apricot Charlotte. “Noir d’Obrist” 2012 – Vin doux naturel, Vaud AOC

The second highlight that absolutely inspired us is this liqueur wine: Noir d’Obrist. Of wonderful red color with hints of brick red it features intense aromas of plum, black cherry, tonka bean and vanilla. A harmonious wine of perfect balance, fruity and with wonderfully round tannins, it is characterized by a beautiful length. Noir d’Obrist pairs perfectly with blue cheese, roasted meat with spicy-hot sauce and chocolate desserts. For more information and orders follow this link >>>

Obrist YOLO – uncomplicated Swiss wines

Hazel especially enjoyed this range of Obrist wines: trendy, uncomplicated, unconventional – YOLO stands for “You Only Live Once”! And that is exactly what makes the charm of these wines. YOLO is the wine for all occasions; a good choice to enjoy with friends, to share the good things in life, such as an aperitif or a good meal. Information and orders here >>>

We had a wonderful time at expovinaPrimavera and enjoyed tasting the Obrist wines. Our interview with Mr. Bruno Sauter, the president of expovina, will be posted shortly. We will also tell you how DJ Antoine is connected to the wine world. And: an Easter surprise from Obrist is waiting for you!
