Spiralps: when algae Spirulina meets Swiss Alp herbs it gets…liquid!
Recently, I had the opportunity to taste Spiralps, a new wellness drink that will be launched in Switzerland in August.
If you knew what Spirulina was before reading this article, you should click « Like » right now because you are one of only 15% to 20% of the Swiss population that know about the benefits that this algae procures, at least that is what statistics say.
Spirulina is a type of blue green algae that, like the name indicates, has the form of a spiral. Spirulina has been an important food source for the Aztecs and other Mesoamericans and is still an important part of nutrition in Chad. Okay, so all that explains the “Spir” part of the word. But what have the Alps got to do with it?
Up until now, Spirulina has been available only in dried form, as tablets or as a powder. But the Swiss start-up Spiralps has revolutionised the “spirulina world” and now offers Spirulina in a liquid form.
Spirulina began its commercial life as dietary supplement: for people suffering from iron deficiency, for vegetarians, for people requiring a gluten free diet, for athletes that were looking for an alternative source of energy or those people being particularly concerned with controlling their body weight.
Whatever its application, Spirulina has always been presented in the same way: dry, as tablets. Some sort of nutraceutical that left a taste of fishy saltwater in the mouth.
No more! decided Yannick Lesbros and Frederic Dubois, Doctor of Physical Chemistry: what is needed really, is to make the nutritional benefits of the algae accessible to a larger number of people and without the fishy taste. And so they set out to develop an innovative formula that allows serving Spirulina in a fresh and delicious tasting drink! Liquid form and with a nice taste. Some of the many benefits this « super food » offers are; higher supply of natural vitamines, carotenoids, antioxidants and fibres, and now thanks to Spiralps this super food is delicious and easier to find!
Spiralps is produced in Switzerland and contains fruits from organic farming and extracts from plants growing in the wild alpine regions. Whilst Spiralps is not a miraculous remedy against all illnesses, it can contribute to higher energy levels, fight fatigue and stress, leading to a healthier life, quite simply.
- 100% natural and contains fresh Spirulina and Swiss fruits and alpine herbs sourced from organic farming
- free from chemicals, preserving agents and additives (including all E series additives)
- quality assured and uses a pasteurizing process based on a new cold pressure technique
- a Swiss invention and the first to offer Spirulina in liquid form
What can I say after having tasted it? Surprising and refreshing. It really is worth to try for yourself!
