Today, Caran d’Ache inaugurates its first Atelier-boutique located in the heart of Plateforme 10, the new arts district in Lausanne. For over a century, the Maison is proudly supporting the artistic talents of all generations with quality products. On Friday 13, Caran d’Ache unveils a unique place dedicated to creativity in multiple forms. In full coherence with the emerging museum pole, this space offers artistic workshops that invite young and old to dive into the creative universe of the brand. One of the arcades is also a place of exhibition and artistic expression as each year, several artists will be invited to come and decorate the walls.

In keeping with the Maison’s values of creativity and transmission, the new Caran d’Ache Atelier-boutique in Lausanne, operated in collaboration with Kramer Krieg, spans four communicating arches: a reception area that is red from floor to ceiling allowing visitors to discover the history of the Maison, a workshop / gallery space dedicated to the organization of creative workshops, an arcade dedicated to the personalization of writing instruments and pencils, and finally a boutique dedicated to fine art products as well as collections of writing instruments.

Creative workshops for adults and children

At the Atelier-boutique, experience is at the heart of the project and the visitor – whatever their age – becomes the main player in a colorful story, thanks to the wide range of workshops on offer. These are centered on the House’s different products, but also on various themes related to the creative trends of the moment such as calligraphy, urban design, DIY or even upcycling, the art of reusing and revaluing everyday objects. Caran d’Ache also offers, upon request, the organization of aperitifs, creative birthdays or even workshops on creativity and team building for companies.

The first Caran d’Ache gallery

The Caran d’Ache workshop and boutique is also a place of artistic and cultural discovery. The space itself becomes a surface of expression, since the walls of the workshop arcade are transformed into creative tools. True to its vocation to develop talents, Caran d’Ache will give each year carte blanche to young artists who will offer innovative creative concepts to decorate the walls of one of the arcades. These artists are also invited to reinterpret the famous hexagonal Caran d’Ache pencil in the form of 3D sculptures.

“L’Odyssée des Crayons” by Nicolas Bamert aka L’Original

The first artist invited to give life to the Caran d’Ache workshop and boutique is none other than Nicolas Bamert alias L’Original: the famous Lausanne based creator of fantastic and colorful universes. Known for its unusual and multicolored installations, L’Original has taken over the space with an immense fresco in bright colors offering a joyful interpretation of a traditional Swiss landscape into which a family of Caran d’Ache pencils has found its way. Several cartoons depicting the adventures of the pencils brighten up the walls of the gallery. “L’Odysée des Crayons” is exteded through three 2m-high pencil-shaped sculptures and the decoration of a shop window at Kramer Krieg on rue Centrale.

Platform 10, the new “arts district” in Lausanne

Dedicated to becoming an essential urban district of Lausanne’s artistic and cultural life, Plateforme 10 will bring together in one and the same place the Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts of Lausanne (which houses the Toms Pauli and Felix Valloton Foundations) and from 2021 the Museum of the Elysée and the mudac.

This space devoted to art and culture is also intended to be a place for walking and passing, articulated around green spaces as well as a “cultural alley” comprising fourteen arcades, four of which are dedicated to Caran d’Ache. (Photographer credit: Igor Laski)
